Similan Islands National Park

Surin Islands National Park

The Surin Islands consist of five islands in the Andaman Sea, just north of the Similan Islands, about 60 km west of the Thai mainland. The islands are part of Ko Phra Thong subdistrict in Khura Buri District in Phang Nga Province. Mu Ko Surin National Park was established in 1981, and is open to tourism from November till end of April, this is in the high season months. In the low season the Surin Islands are closed for visits.

The Surin Islands are inhabited by Moken people. There are about 150 Moken on the islands, being sea nomads they were used to living in houseboats that were easy to move around depending on the weather, fishing grounds, and overall dominated by the seasons. Today there are 2 Moken communities on the Surin Islands.
